Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) is mainly concerned with cardiac rhythm disorders. It’s a crucial subspecialty of Cardiology that underwent tremendous and radical developments throughout the last two decades. Major advances have been introduced in Arrhythmia monitoring and invasive therapy, including “Catheter Ablation” procedures and “Intra-Cardiac Devices Implementation”. With more advanced technologies coming into scene, complex arrhythmias like “Atrial Fibrillation” and “Scar-Related Ventricular Tachycardia” have become amenable to treatment by “Catheter Ablation”. Moreover, life threatening arrhythmias in patients suffering from “Cardiomyopathy” or “Cardiac Channelopathies” are now rendered treatable by means of implantable cardiac defibrillators. A new hope has also been presented to heart failure patients with the help of “Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy”.
We, at Dar Al Fouad Hospital (DAFH), have always been committed to delivering the highest caliber of care with the most up-to-date technology. In 2012, a total renovation of the cardiac EP recording system has been accomplished with the installation of EP WorkMate-4; a state-of-the-art recording system that achieves the clearest signal recording amongst other currently available systems.
The latest version of the NavX System (Velocity Ver.3) has also been installed. The NavX system provides unmatched accuracy and user-friendly software which allows the performance of ablation procedures in cases of “Atrial Fibrillation”, “Atrial Flutter”, “Atrial Tachycardia”, “Scar-Related Ventricular Tachycardia” and “Idiopathic Ventricular Tachycardia”. Upon the installation of such system, DAFH became the first private hospital in the region that provides 3D mapping technology for “Catheter Ablation”.
A specialized arrhythmia clinic for atrial fibrillation management has also been started in 2012, with plans for further growth and expansion over the next year. Being the first specialized atrial fibrillation clinic in the country, it’s fully dedicated to the management of atrial fibrillation, providing appropriate and individual treatment decisions and choices for each case, those including “Catheter Ablation”, “Cardioversions”, surgery and “Left Atrial Appendage Closure”.
Abiding by the international standards for EP care has enabled DAFH to participate in a multinational multicenter device trial in collaboration with a major device manufacturer. In addition, DAFH is now a recognized atrial fibrillation center by the European Heart Rhythm Association. This international recognition has further emphasized the hospital's stature as a center of excellence in Cardiac Electrophysiology; not only in Egypt, but also the whole region.
Due to the team of prominent cardiac electrophysiologists and foreign experts who visit DAFH periodically, the EP service has undergone a remarkable growth in catheter ablation procedures and pacemaker/ICD implantations with excellent success rates that could stand up to the international standards.
What We Treat
Electrophysiologists (doctors who specialize in heart rhythms) are also experts in the treatment and long-term management of many types of abnormal heart beats (arrhythmias). These include:
Atrial Fibrillation
Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW)
Heart Block
Long QT Syndrome (LQTS)
Sudden Cardiac Death (Sudden Cardiac Arrest)
Ventricular Tachycardia
Premature Ventricular Contractions
and many more ...
