LEADERSHIP

The Internal Medicine Department provides several cornerstone functions which are fundamental to the practice of modern medicine at DAFH.  Its most visible role is in the peri-operative and periprocedural management of diabetic patients who constitute approximately one third of all hospital patients. Furthermore, it is involved in the perioperative care of virtually any patient with an attendant medical condition who is indicated to be subjected to major or minor procedures.

There are, indeed, many other disciplines which the department covers including:

  • Perioperative management
  • Endocrinology
  • Disorders of metabolism
  • Hospital nutritional support
  • Fevers and infection
  • Clinical immunology
  • Clinical hematology

The Internal Medicine Department is the main driving force behind a multidisciplinary approach to problematic cases – formulating a road map for the management plan for the patients with other departments. The more complex the case the more likely it is to mandate the involvement of the department.
